Support to Eyewear Design Education by Marchon

Marchon Eyewear has announced a new academic partnership with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), a global leader in art, design and innovation in higher education, as the university launches its first-ever Fashion Eyewear Design course. SCAD’s new dedicated Fashion Eyewear Design course within its Accessory Design program will allow students to explore the fusion of fashion and style with technical skills to design innovative eyewear, Marchon shared. Through the new SCAD Fashion Eyewear Design course and partnership with Marchon, students will receive instruction in the art of eyewear design, focusing on technical and concept development, construction, technology, merchandising, industry innovations, standards and more. J.F. Rey emphasizes its unique, universal and enduring essence in its new Square collection with a fresh design approach. The main idea behind the French brand’s latest women’s optical collection is inspired by the geometric patterns and vibrant filters of artist Daniel Buren. The collection also pays homage to J.F. Rey’s iconic square motif. The new collection is characterized by bold designs and creative use of acetate, displaying remarkable structural, color and transparency effects. Each frame in J.F. Inspecs’ 2024 Interim Financial Results

Inspecs Group, a global eyewear and lens design house and manufacturer, reported its 2024 unaudited interim results for the six months ended June 30, 2024, showing that group revenue in the first half of 2024 was below last year, decreasing by 7.3 percent to £103 million compared with £111 million in the first half of 2023. The company attributed this to a one-off elevated level of sales in Q1 2023. On a constant exchange rate basis, revenue decreased by 5.2 percent to £105.4 million compared with £111.2 million in the first half of 2023. Gross profit margin significantly increased by 100 basis points to 52.4 percent, compared with 51.4 percent in the first half of 2023. Inspecs Group Ceo Richard Peck said: “The Group has made steady progress during the period, with significantly improved gross profit margins delivered across all divisions and strong cash generation. We have achieved sustainable cost savings through the ongoing implementation of operational efficiencies, particularly in the U.S., and we will continue to undertake further initiatives during the second half.”

Gigi Studios’ Vanguard Series Expands

Spanish eyewear brand Gigi Studios presents new models in its sun and optical collections, including the popular Vanguard range which fuses sophistication and a fashion-forward attitude. The new additions in the Vanguard Optical and Sunglass collections have strong architectural shapes and feature a range of unique gradient acetates, crafted after numerous trials –  to achieve the ideal shades. Models Anja and Rosalia in the Vanguard collection have an earthy and ochre-infused colour palette to capture the essence of the Autumn/Winter season, with subtle highlights to enhance the designs. Among the sun models are gradient effects which have been meticulously developed in vertical and horizontal lines to achieve the collection’s feminine and vanguardist aesthetic. Vanguard is known for its daring, statement shapes sculpted from lightweight acetates, showcasing intricate angles and bevels. Fleye Reveals New Details Series

Danish eyewear brand Fleye Copenhagen announces Details, a new collection which continues to focus on materials and the small details of the frame designs. To develop the line, the design team zoomed in on the smallest details to play with the elements that make the collection daring in its own way. Annette Estø, Head of Marketing and Design says: “Fleye Copenhagen has always worked with an immense focus. Our previous collection Materials was a testament to that and we are staying dedicated to that with our Details collection. Frames from the Details collection dare a little more. This comes to expression in the smallest details such as the shapes, colours, materials and some detailing that will be revealed when the frames are worn.” The details are incorporated into all aspects of the new frames, and are not all visible immediately. Some are discovered through touch, some are just there for the wearer, and others will come to life when the frame is worn, the design team explains.

EssiLux and Meta Collab Strengthens

EssilorLuxottica has announced that it has entered into a new long-term agreement that extends it partnership with Meta Platforms, under which the parties will collaborate into the next decade to develop multi-generational smart eyewear products. The two companies have been collaborating since 2019, resulting in two generations of Ray-Ban branded smart glasses that have redefined the potential for consumer wearables. The line of Ray-Ban Meta glasses has garnered widespread adoption in that time, which the company attributes to the balance struck between form and function, combining EssilorLuxottica’s industry knowledge and global network of retail and wholesale locations together with Meta’s advancements in technology. According to the company, the glasses are in high demand in the markets in which they’re available, including the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia and many European countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Spain and Sweden.

Gothic Realism by Cutler and Gross

British luxury eyewear brand Cutler and Gross has teamed up with British Rock ‘n’ Roll jewelers The Great Frog to launch an exclusive eyewear collection for this season. The campaign, titled Gothic Realism, is fronted by punk icon and longtime friend of the brand, Debbie Harry. As the legendary lead singer of Blondie and a trailblazer of the New Wave movement, Harry’s eclectic punk style and enduring influence make her the ideal face for the collaboration. The campaign was shot at the iconic Chelsea Hotel in New York, a landmark of pop culture that has hosted artists like Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan, and Patti Smith. The Gothic Realism collection features six unique designs that delve into the dark, mystical world of the Underworld. Handcrafted in Cutler and Gross’ Italian atelier, the frames reflect over a century of craftsmanship, incorporating The Great Frog’s signature 925 Sterling Silver or 24K Gold-plated emblems. The collection’s color palette mixes classic tones with vibrant bursts of color, created through the intricate layering of pigmented acetate.
