Zeiss Strengthens Its XR Capabilities
Zeiss has announced the creation of a new strategic business unit, “Zeiss Extended Reality,” to strengthen its activities in the field of extended reality (XR). The new unit now operates alongside Zeiss Vision Care, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of eyeglass lenses and ophthalmic instruments, forming the Zeiss Consumer Markets segment. The company emphasizes that clear vision is essential for users to fully experience XR technologies, including virtual (VR), mixed (MR), and augmented reality (AR). For nearly a decade, Zeiss teams have been developing specialized products and solutions to ensure that users with visual impairments can enjoy XR to its fullest. By bringing these efforts together under a single umbrella, Zeiss Extended Reality will now offer partners high-quality XR corrective lenses, optical systems, and end-to-end integration solutions. Tooz, fully acquired by Zeiss in 2023, focuses on developing optical solutions and reference designs for see-through AR devices. Since its founding in 2015, Tooz’s primary goal has been the seamless integration of prescription solutions into AR optics, ensuring compatibility with ophthalmic mass production. With this strategic move, Zeiss positions itself strongly in the XR market, aiming to make XR products accessible to all users who require vision correction.
