Meta has invested €3 billion to acquire a 3% stake in eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica. Since 2019, EssilorLuxottica and Meta have been collaborating to develop smart glasses integrating voice control, cameras, speakers, and augmented reality interfaces. Most recently, the Oakley Meta smart glasses, combining advanced AI with a sport-focused design, were launched. The markets responded positively to this development, with EssilorLuxottica shares rising nearly 6% on the CAC 40 index, surpassing key technical resistance levels. Meta’s potential increase of its stake to 5% would further strengthen the partnership’s industrial and technological capabilities. The ultimate goal is to develop next-generation wearable products that could replace traditional smartphones and computers. EssilorLuxottica Ceo Francesco Milleri emphasizes the company’s ambition to lead the wearable computing market by integrating digital innovation into everyday optical products. In line with growing demand and technological trends, this partnership between Meta and EssilorLuxottica is set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of eyewear technology.
