Mykita presents new product innovations in the Mykita Studio collection. Studio 13 comes in cool sixties aesthetic using a novel material mix and 3D manufacturing technology. Studio 13 introduces an innovative material concept to the eyewear world – the unique combination of Mykita ‘s proprietary Mylon material and traditional acetate. The sunglasses’ high volume design is made from ultra-light, durable Mylon, which is created using cutting-edge 3D printing technology. Meanwhile, the slim rims around the lenses are crafted from acetate, providing a defining detail that adds to the design’s appeal. Studio 13.1 is a slimmer silhouette with cool, unisex appeal and Studio 13.2 has a more glamourous, oversize square shape. Central to both model is the interplay of the two materials and their respective colours, which creates the defining and unique look. Matt Mylon paired with glossy, transparent acetate let the lenses appear to hover inside the frame front. Ton-sûr-ton colourways using tortoise shell acetates present a more understated version. Opaque colour-blocking options such as black/sand deliver a high contrast graphic effect.

Iconic name, world-famous former soccer player David Beckham presents his latest eyewear collection for the Spring/Summer 2023 season under the Eyewear by David Beckham brand. David Beckham shared a photo of himself with a pair of versatile clip-on sunglasses from his new limited edition collection on social media, and managed to gain the attention and admiration of his fans. The two-layer, black and thick-framed sunglasses promise comfort and convenience in all weather conditions thanks to their clips. David Beckham said about the Spring/Summer 2023 collection: “I love glasses and I’ve collected a lot of glasses over the years. To create this series, I went through my own archive, my wife’s archive and visited vintage shops. Over the years, I’ve always looked up to people like Steve McQueen and Paul Newman in the way I dress and they’ve been part of my inspiration.”

Neubau Salutes Summer

With Surreal Heat collection, the Austrian eyewear brand Neubau Eyewear presents new sunglass designs for the summer of 2023. Known for its sustainable brand philosophy, the premium label from Austria is taking the campaign to a contradictory scene of ice and desert, in which winter and summer symbolically merge. Bright colors such as cool rosé, icy gray or reflective blue define the color palette of the collection made of sustainable materials. In this futuristic artwork of the campaign, two statement shapes stand out from the monochrome world. Striking shapes and ultimate lightness characterize the Freddy model made of plant-based acetate. Quinn convinces with strong expression through feminine elements of a cateye frame elaborated with geometric precision. Other highlight models such as Alena, Josi and Rupert combine cool colors with soft shapes. Neubau’s summer collection Surreal Heat also focuses on resource-saving and particularly high-quality materials. Under the credo “Join the sustainable Avantgarde”, the use of plant-based acetate and other natural polymers preserves a deep connection to nature with minimal impact on the environment. In addition, all Neubau Eyewear models are handcrafted in the CO2-neutral production facility in the heart of Austria.

Kering’s Revenues Increasing

Within the Kering Group’s overall first-quarter financial report, the company characterized its Kering Eyewear division’s performance as “excellent”. Kering Eyewear revenues reached €433 million for Q1, up 11 percent on a comparable basis and up 44 percent on an as-reported basis. The company noted that the performance was “driven by the strong momentum of the brands in its portfolio,” and cited the strong contribution of Maui Jim, consolidated in Kering’s financial statements since Oct. 1, 2022. In the first quarter of 2023, Kering Eyewear announced the acquisition of UNT (Usinage & Nouvelles Technologies), a French manufacturer of high-precision components, in order to strengthen its position in the luxury eyewear industry. Founded in 1989 in Morbier in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France, UNT is a key player in the manufacturing of high-precision metal and mechanical components. The Kering Group reported that its overall group revenue reached €5,077 million in the first three months of the fiscal year, an increase of 2 percent as reported and up 1 percent on a comparable basis. Revenue in the Group’s directly operated store network, including e-commerce, rose by 4 percent on a comparable basis.

Safilo’s Positive First Quarter Results

Safilo Group’s board of directors reviewed and approved the company’s Q1 2023 economic and key performance indicators. Angelo Trocchia, Safilo Group Ceo, commented, “The first quarter of 2023 broadly met our expectations for the beginning of the year, reflecting the continuation of some of the main business drivers that had characterized the second half of last year. Our sales, on the whole substantially stable compared to the same period of 2022 and growing by 3.2 percent at the organic level, were driven by our home brands and our core licenses registering again good progress in emerging countries and above all in Europe, where the various markets of the area continued to expand nicely. On the profit side, we are pleased with the continuation of our journey toward a better gross margin, which in the period grew to 58.4 percent of sales, up by 340 basis points compared to the first quarter of 2022, but we are also pleased to confirm an adjusted Ebitda margin in line with last year, at 11.3 percent of revenues, as we continued investing in marketing activities dedicated to our home brands and in supporting the development of our digital infrastructure and services.”

GLCO x Massimo Alba Capsule

Renowned Italian designer Massimo Alba has partnered with Garrett Leight California Optical (GLCO) to create a capsule collection. The first for the Italian designer, the eyewear capsule collection focuses on sunglasses with a ’70s vibe. In sync with the understated luxury and casual elegance of the independent fashion brand launched by the namesake designer in 2006, the capsule collection hinges on a single, sober style crafted in acetate and defined by a double bridge. Inspired by a classic 1970s frame owned by Alba himself, the sunglass design is offered in the three colorways Brera, Sole and Luce, indicating shades in black, green and burnt red, respectively. An optical version of the model will also be available exclusively at Garrett Leight California Optical’s units.

Sustainable Series from Ferragamo

Ferragamo once again proves its sensitivity to environmental sustainability by presenting its Spring/Summer 2023 collection using Eastman Tritan™ Renew. The oversized silhouettes boast a new, stylish interpretation of Ferragamo’s unmistakable icon in the customized Gancini 3D print embellishing the temples on the outside, while a metal plaque bears the Ferragamo logo on the inside. With square front and gradient lenses for the sunglasses and square or round lenses in the optical frames, a timeless color palette enhances the models’ refinement. Ferragamo introduces for the new season optical and sunglass styles with lenses and frames made of Eastman Tritan™ Renew, using in the manufacturing process 50% recycled polyester derived from waste plastics. The SF1088SE sunglasses feature square gradient lenses and thick temples, with color variants ranging from black to ivory, dark brown, and dark khaki. Square oversize lenses also for the SF2956E optical style, whose color selection includes tortoise, black, dark khaki, and burgundy.
