Randolph and Brooklyn Circus Partnership

Randolph and The Brooklyn Circus have created a capsule collection sharing the history of five Haitian pilots who served in the US military during World War II as part of the Tuskegee Airmen. The special collection pays tribute to the courage, perseverance and unity of the Black Airman Squadron Tuskegee Airmen, specifically the 5 Haitian Tuskegee Airmen who left the comfort of their homes to join the war effort. The five-barrel hinged MiUSA acetate frame in Translucent smoke color features a custom, hand-drawn sky and cloud motif etched onto the core wire. Additional details include a Gunmetal pole shape inspired by the US Army Air Force emblem. Inspired by the Second World War era, the Randolph P-51 sun clip combines the signature look of the Aviator II with the fighter pilot goggles of the Haitian Tuskegee Airmen. The unique eyewear design symbolizes a spinning propeller. Combined with a special clip that incorporates all the technologies that distinguish Randolph from other sunglass lenses, the collection is designed for prescription sunglass wearers to experience this privilege.

An Award to Hoya & Unicef Collaboration

At the Clear Vision Conference organized by Hoya Vision Care, where projects from other countries also took part, we won first place with our social responsibility and sustainability project we carried out with Unicef for ’empowering girls’. According to Unicef data, 129 million girls worldwide are out of school, including 32 million in primary school, 30 million in middle school and 67 million in high school. Although education participation rates in Turkey have increased since the early 2000s, there is still room for improvement. In the OECD’s annual report “Education at a Glance 2016” published in December, Turkey ranked among the lowest among the countries included in the report in terms of girls’ participation in education. For many years, Hoya has been delivering RX lenses to the end consumer, including plastic cleaning sprays and plastic envelopes for cleaning cloths. At the beginning of 2022, we started thinking about how to create a sustainability policy for our future. First, we changed the plastics to metal sprays and the box to recycled kraft material. By 2023, we completely removed the sprays from the boxes and donated to Unicef to empower girls in need.

Miyosmart Slows the Rate of Myopia

According to the World Health Organization’s 2020 estimates, about 30% of the world’s population is myopic and by 2050, half of the world’s population will be affected by myopia. Left untreated, myopia can lead to long-term vision problems. Children under 10 years of age are at risk and the annual rate of myopia progression is highest in children under 10 years of age. A child whose one parent is myopic is about 3 times more likely to become myopic, and a child whose both parents are myopic is about 6 times more likely to become myopic. Hoya introduced Miyosmart, which slows the rate of myopia progression in children by 60%, to the Turkish market in June 2023. The Miyosmart lens is based on the revolutionary Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (D.I.M.S.). This technology was developed in 2014 in collaboration with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Miyosmart with D.I.M.S. technology corrects visual impairment over its entire surface to slow the rate of myopia progression. For the children who are the guarantee of our future, Hoya is calling on all parents to fight against myopia in children by introducing Miyosmart, the smart way to combat myopia, to the Turkish market.
