Google has shared the next phase of its Android XR platform integrated with the Gemini artificial intelligence system, highlighting its latest developments in the smart eyewear segment. During Google I/O 2026, the company presented prototypes of smart glasses developed in collaboration with the design teams of Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, with commercial release planned for this fall. The upcoming eyewear combines features such as real time translation, navigation, messaging, photography, and voice assistance. Integrated cameras, microphones, and speakers enable the devices to interpret the user’s surroundings and provide contextual information through Gemini. Google also stated that its smart eyewear initiative is expected to expand through additional brand partnerships in the future. Developed together with Samsung and Qualcomm, the Android XR platform is regarded as the company’s most ambitious wearable technology project since Google Glass.
