EssilorLuxottica Invests in Wearable Technology
EssilorLuxottica has announced plans to establish its first dedicated manufacturing infrastructure for smart eyewear in Italy. The company will launch the new production activities at its Agordo facility in the Veneto region, focusing on wearable eyewear technologies. Production is expected to begin in the early months of 2027. As part of the project, an entire production area within the Agordo plant will be dedicated to smart eyewear. Preparations for the new manufacturing infrastructure are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. The investment is part of a broader program covering facilities, equipment, and workforce development. EssilorLuxottica said the initiative is intended to strengthen the competitiveness of its Italian manufacturing network. The company also noted the growing strategic importance of smart eyewear within the optical industry. According to EssilorLuxottica, the investment will further reinforce the role of its Italian facilities as centers of innovation. Chairman and CEO Francesco Milleri described the decision to bring smart eyewear production to Italy as a significant strategic step for both the company and the local region. Milleri added that the project requires a strong supply chain, advanced manufacturing expertise, and high technological capabilities.
